Trying To Go Organic During Fall & Hanukkah

FILED IN My Randomness Comments Off

When it comes to health I used to be a super healthy freak. I wouldn’t eat anything fried, I would stay away from meat & dairy (which I still do), desserts were a big no no, and there would be an occasional snack once a week. Very rarely would you catch me at a mall food court or fine restaurant. You would regularly find me in the gym 3x – 4x per week if not more running on the treadmill and lifting light weights to keep fit.

With that in mind we came out with organic gift baskets because our mindset was if I like to stay healthy chances are hundreds of thousands of other people out of six billion human beings on the planet probably feel the same way. It turns out we were right and they quickly moved up the list of our best selling products. Soon after we took the fresh fruit and added them to our fall gift baskets & advertised them with a health/good for you angle since they were now organic – another success to add to the list!

Next came the holidays and we had family & friends travel from all around the world to join us for nearly two weeks to celebrate Hanukkah. My diet turned into a total disaster. Everyday the mom’s were cooking up delicious foods, we were out shopping during the day so obviously ate fast food, and nights were spent at classy restaurants in downtown. Boy did I put on some weight and that’s when the next brilliant idea came to fruition…

If I put on weight during Hanukkah (and yes, we did order Hanukkah gift baskets for our visitors), I’m sure others would feel the same. So for the coming holidays trying to organic is a smart move. Not only will you stay fit you won’t have to worry about all sorts of weird chemicals going into your system. Happy, healthy, & tasty – enjoy!

There’s Something About Chinese Food

FILED IN My Randomness Comments Off

Today we had chinese food for dinner and although it tasted really good (I do mean, like, amazing!) something didn’t sit right about it with me. Here’s what the menu break down looked like:

Appetizers: Egg rolls and hot & sour soup

Beverages: Iced water, orange soda, iced tea

Entrees: Vegetable fried rice, lemon walnut chicken, & mongolian beef

Desserts: Coconut fried ice cream with vanilla frosted cake

Now I didn’t write all that out in such detail to get you hungry. The point is we had everything a regular chinese place would have yet it just wasn’t the same. After thinking about it for a while, and this truly might make you laugh: It’s the wonderful take-out boxes that really make the meal for me.

Now of course we aren’t professional chefs in the house by any means so the taste was obviously different. It didn’t taste exactly like the restaurant would have but we got pretty close. The problem was chinese food is branded with that cute little white take out container. If you don’t have that, you don’t have the right vibe. Weird but true.

And that’s exactly why we are trying to build a brand around our gift baskets for children because we want people to know that they are ordering from us and it won’t feel right buy choosing just any other store on the web. In fact, with the gift baskets for men we make them “snack-a-licious” (is that a word?) and with the gift baskets for women we make them “feminine-licious” (also not a word, I looked it up!).

So next time you buy something, think about what attracted you to it. It maybe the branding more then the actual thing, whatever that thing maybe is irrelevant.

I Finally Joined Twitter And Am Loving It

FILED IN My Randomness Comments Off

Social media is exploding, there’s no question about it. Everyone I know is on Facebook and Twitter. All my friends even the non-technical ones have joined, and I’ll go as far as to say I saw my mom on Twitter – kinda nuts when you think about how she beat me to it! But I was resistant to these sites for the longest time.

My time is really important to me. Well, let me re-phrase that and say my time means more to me then anything else. It’s the only thing that cannot be brought back. If I lose some money, a materialistic object, or something similar it can all be earned back but unfortunately time is the one thing which although most valuable/meaningful to us all is running out minute by minute.

So I refused to join the social media craze because I knew how much of a time suck it would be. The last thing I want to do is stop enjoying the outdoors and spend 24 hours sitting in front of a computer screen updating statuses, replying to people I don’t know, and using teenage slang – but I was wrong! I finally created an account on Twitter and it’s so cool… LOL!

As contradicting as that sounds, it’s helping me with a lot of cool stuff. For example, I was able to ask a well known e-commerce person a few questions today and connected with her in a matter of minutes. If I tried to do this offline it would’ve been very formal and a ton of more work.

Just the other day a guy sent me a direct message asking for gift ideas for gift baskets for women as he wanted to surprise his girlfriend. Another woman told me there was a family friend whose son’s birthday was around the corner and wanted to know about our gift baskets for children. I was able to help them in seconds without getting on the phone.

Other examples include staying up to date with industry information and branding myself in front of people who I would otherwise have no access to. I’m also posting status updates about what I’m up to so if anyone wants to follow me you can do so at www.Twitter.com/KateKlemens
